Encouraging industry response to Alkimos expression of interest

LandCorp’s search for visionary developers to lead the creation of a vibrant new coastal city has entered the next exciting stage.

Expressions of interest closed this week for a development partner to manage and coordinate planning, design and sustainability initiatives for 710 hectares of LandCorp’s urban zoned land at Alkimos, located 40 kilometres north of Perth between Joondalup and Yanchep.

LandCorp Chief Executive Ross Holt said following a six week expression of interest period, assessment of submissions would start almost immediately.

“We are delighted with the level of interest we have received from potential development partners,” Mr Holt said.

“The quality of submissions at first view reflects LandCorp’s big picture thinking for Alkimos.

“All submissions will be thoroughly assessed during January and a shortlist of proponents will be selected in mid-February 2009 to prepare more detailed proposals.”

Mr Holt said Alkimos would be the largest coastal development in Perth for more than 50 years.

“We are seeking a development partner who shares our vision for Alkimos, so we are setting high standards for planning right from the start.

“The project will make a significant contribution to housing the land required in Perth’s rapidly-growing north-west metropolitan corridor.

“Coastal areas will be developed first to set the trend for the development, with Alkimos Eglinton area eventually providing housing for around 50,000 people over 25 years.”

All phases of the expression of interest and request for proposal process will be subject to stringent and independent auditing.
