Plans for Alkimos community in the hands of City of Wanneroo councillors

Plans for Perth’s newest and largest environmentally sustainable coastal community have been submitted to the City of Wanneroo for consideration.

Lend Lease in partnership with LandCorp, has submitted a Local Structure Plan for the 224ha beachfront site located 16km north of Joondalup between Marmion Avenue and the Indian Ocean.

The proposed community includes over 2,200 homes spread across seven distinct village precincts, a regional beach, possible dog beach, potential regional marina and a 41ha foreshore reserve to preserve the dunes along the unique coastline.

Alkimos will be a vibrant coastal community featuring a primary school, high school with playing fields, shops, cafes, walking and bike trails, business space and over 26ha of community parks, playgrounds and recreation areas.

A variety of housing types are proposed for Alkimos - single residential homes, townhouses and apartments, which will be supported with a fibre optic high speed broadband internet connection.

The community will be connected to the future Alkimos Regional Centre and proposed Alkimos railway station via public transport links, roads and a series of interconnected bike and pedestrian pathways. When complete the Alkimos Regional centre will provide the primary commercial and retail focus for the area.

Ross Holt, CEO LandCorp added “We are exploring ways to power Alkimos with green and renewable energy with the aim of moving towards a carbon-neutral, sustainable and energy efficient community.”

Water management will also be a focus, with emphasis placed on reuse, recycling and conservation measures for all homes and commercial sites.

Environmental and Aboriginal Heritage Plans have been prepared to ensure the long term protection and interpretation of areas of significance, such as Karli Spring which is to be preserved and celebrated as a place of Aboriginal cultural value.

Lend Lease Project Director Anne Jolic is excited about the next steps as the Alkimos community moves a step closer.

“Lend Lease and LandCorp thank the City of Wanneroo for their consultative process during this phase of the project and we look forward to working together to create a bustling community that sets a new standard of living in Perth’s north western corridor,” Anne said.

“Alkimos will be an affordable and attractive community, with well-designed streetscapes and engaging public places for a wide range of people. We want to create a safe and healthy community with access to jobs, services and learning.”

Stage One will take seven years to complete and up to 20 years to develop the entire 710 hectare community which will ultimately be home to around 50,000 residents.
